Can’t Complete a Task
If you’re unable to complete a task in a process instance, here are the most common reasons and fixes.
Task Has Dependencies
The task may depend on another task being completed first. Look for a lock icon or a message indicating which tasks need to be finished before this one becomes available.
Fix: Complete the required tasks first, then return to the blocked task.
Task Requires Approval
If the task is an approval task, it can’t be completed normally — it needs to be approved or rejected by the assigned approver.
Fix: Check who the approver is and ask them to review the task. They’ll need to approve or reject it from their inbox or the process instance.
Required Fields Are Empty
Tasks with required form fields can’t be completed until all required fields are filled in. Required fields are marked with an asterisk (*).
Fix: Fill in all required fields and try completing the task again.
You’re Not Assigned
Some tasks may only be completable by the person they’re assigned to.
Fix: Check the task assignment. If it’s assigned to someone else, ask them to complete it or have the process owner reassign it to you.
