Task Types: Standard & Approval
NextStep supports two types of tasks.
Standard tasks
Standard tasks are regular workflow steps. They can contain form elements, be assigned to team members, and have due dates. Anyone with access can complete or skip them.
Approval tasks
Approval tasks add a review and sign-off step to your process. When you create an approval task, you select which other tasks it covers.
How approvals work:
- The approver reviews the covered tasks and can approve or reject each one individually.
- Approve All and Reject All buttons let you handle multiple tasks at once.
- Rejected tasks require a comment explaining what needs to change.
- Approved tasks become locked — they can’t be edited until the approval is revoked.
- Revoking an approval unlocks the task for further changes.
Use cases for approval tasks:
- Quality assurance checkpoints
- Manager sign-offs
- Client review stages
- Compliance verification
